Holiday Light and Magic
Operating near The Legends outlets and Kansas Speedway, Holiday Light and Magic is a worthwhile visit for your family this holiday season, even with a short drive.
As a new event, Holiday Light and Magic isn’t carrying the tradition and history of some of the other events on this list, but it makes up for it by being extremely fun and unique. When you head over to Holiday Light and Magic, you’ll be met with 100 interactive lighting displays that pack the streets as you drive through and listen to holiday carols on your radio.
Ever thought you’d see Santa on a snowboard? Elves running a construction company? Holiday celebrations in space? Dinosaurs as reindeer? Santa playing basketball? We didn’t either until we visited Holiday Light and Magic and realized the possibilities are endless. Don’t miss out on what cool ideas they come up with this year.
Legendary Tree Lighting
Right up the street from Holiday Light and Magic, this lighting ceremony is definitely worth the trip to the Legends Outlets. This is a beautiful, 45-foot tree being lit with over 2,000 ornaments and thousands of lights as well. Introduced by a synchronized light show to music, this tree lighting also includes a live concert, prizes, free hot chocolate, photo opportunities, face painting, balloon animals, and more. Don’t miss seeing this amazing tree light up the night sky for the first time.
Country Club Plaza Lighting Ceremony
This is a longstanding Kansas City tradition that happens every Thanksgiving in the heart of downtown KC. Live music, giveaways, and other activities highlight this extravagant event.
Watch a local celebrity flip the switch on 80 miles worth of holiday lights, or more than 200,000 bulbs to mark the official beginning of holiday season in Kansas City.
These lights beautify the Country Club Plaza through mid-January, so don’t fret if you can’t make the initial lighting. It is still a great experience that we highly recommend.
Mayor’s Tree Lighting
Another long-standing Kansas City tradition that’s not a long drive from our luxury apartment complex. This lighting ceremony is headlined by a performance from the Kansas City Chorale and the official switch-flip by the mayor and a selected guest.
Another massive tree, the 2021 version of the Mayor’s tree was 100-feet tall and featured over 48,000 LED lights, 900 ornaments, and 300 bells. Doesn’t that sound like a tree you want to see?
