Get Ready to Live in Our Luxury Apartments in Overland Park, KS

Moving is a stressful task – it feels like there’s a million things to do and no time for it all. Luckily, there are ways to ease your worries and make the move-in process a lot easier. With so much going on, it’s common for things to slip your mind. That’s why it’s best to have a to-do list in place before you move into an apartment for rent.

A checklist ensures the move goes smoothly, and you don’t miss anything along the way. The Residences at Galleria is here to help make the move-in process easy as can be! We can assist in any questions or concerns you might have as you join our luxury apartment community.

Start Out Prepared with an Apartment Move-In Checklist

When you prepare for your move ahead of time, it makes the rest of the process run smoother and easier. Most times, you’re moving out of a space that also needs to be taken care of before you can say your relocation is complete. This can sometimes be the most stressful part of the moving process. With an apartment move-in checklist, you can ensure everything is in order with your old apartment and your new one.

  • Apply for your new apartment

The first thing you should do before you start checking anything off your list is sign your new lease. Once you sign the lease for an apartment for rent, this makes it unavailable to anyone else. Don’t run the risk of someone snatching up the unit before you do! The timing of your lease matters, too. Make sure your move-in date correlates with the end of your previous lease, that way you have enough time to move and you aren’t paying rent for two places. And don’t forget to notify your current apartment manager that you’re moving out!

  • Schedule cancellation of your services

It will make for a smoother transition into your new place if you’ve already buttoned up everything with your previous residence. This includes canceling or transferring any utilities and services like electricity and Internet.

  • Set up mail forwarding

Don’t forget to notify the post office of your new address so mail can be forwarded to you. You can set up mail forwarding online or at your local post office. Notify any print magazines you receive of your new address, as they cannot be forwarded.

  • Request time off from work, if needed

The last thing you want to worry about while you’re moving is work. If possible, take some time off to focus on your move. This eases a ton of stress and keeps you from trying to get everything done in just a weekend.

  • Rent a moving truck

You need a truck to move larger pieces of furniture and all your boxes. Don’t wait to rent a truck until the day of your move! During busy moving seasons, truck rentals can fill up quickly. Schedule your pick up ahead of time so you know you’re getting the right size truck for the period of time you need.

  • Pack up your belongings

Although this may seem like an obvious task to have on your apartment move-in checklist, it can be the one you put off the most. Packing should start a few weeks before your move-in date so you don’t get overwhelmed. Make sure to label everything and properly wrap anything fragile that could potentially break during the move. We recommend using bubble wrap, foam sheets, and packing paper.

  • Deep clean your current apartment

Before you officially move out of your old space, you’ll need to deep clean the apartment. You’ll want to do this step after you’ve moved all of your belongings out. Make sure to sweep, mop, and wipe down all surfaces. This is also a great time to check all of your cabinets, drawers and closets for lost items. If you leave your apartment clean and undamaged, you’ll get your security deposit back, which you can put into your savings account or invest into decor for your new space.

More Items for Your Apartment Move-In Checklist

Moving is a marathon, not a sprint. Don’t rush the process – this will only make move-in more stressful! Once you’ve figured out how you’ll be transporting your belongings, there are still a few things on your apartment move-in checklist to keep in mind.

  • Set up your utilities at your new place

The same way that you have to stop your utilities at your old apartment, you have to start your utilities at your luxury apartment. This is easy at The Residences at Galleria! Simply call your utility providers to start your electricity, gas, and Internet.

  • Do one last walk-through

Before you turn in your keys to your old apartment, do a final walk through. This is in case you left anything behind or need to make any final cleaning touch-ups. Ask a representative of the property to walk through with you so they can see the condition of your former home.

  • Return your keys

Before you can fully focus on your new apartment, you have to turn in the keys to your old apartment. Your previous apartment company should give you instructions on their move-out process.

After You’ve Moved Into Your New Luxury Apartment

An apartment move-in checklist doesn’t end when you get your new keys! There’s still a few things to keep in mind before you can finally relax in your new home.

  • Unpack your boxes

Although it can be tempting to let some of your boxes sit and wait, you won’t be able to enjoy your new space until you’ve fully unpacked. You’ll be able to assess if there’s anything you need to replace or buy and you can experiment with different furniture layouts and designs.

  • Check out your new community

When you live at The Residences at Galleria, you get so much more than just an apartment! Our luxury apartments have a long list of great amenities for residents to enjoy. Get to know the building, our community spaces, and our outdoor amenities when you move in. You can start to get an idea of what your daily routine will look like and how you’d like to utilize your new building.

  • Host a housewarming party

With moving behind you and a new apartment to enjoy, a housewarming party is a must. Show off your new space to family and friends! Worried about having enough room? The Residences at Galleria has plenty of community spaces perfect for hosting.
